One of the leading figures in Korean abstract art, Park, Seo-bo expanded the boundaries of his work away from description, imitation, and expression and towards Korean monochrome painting, embarking on his Ecriture series in the 1970s. In the series, which became the starting point of Korean monochrome painting, Park repeatedly drew, erased, and redrew lines with a pencil and a knife on a wet plane canvas, using the repetitive physical action of “drawing” to represent the purity of self-discipline and the mind.
