Description
Ko Hui-dong(1886-1965) was engaged in oil painting—the first Joseon artist to explore Western-style painting—but transitioned to Oriental painting styles in the mid- and late-1920s. This is one of the few figure paintings of his featuring an uncommon subject. The facial expression of the elderly Buddhist monk reveals distinctive individuality and power, displaying the change in Ko’s style.
