Description
Norigae, a pendant hung from the breast-tie of jeogori (women’s jacket) or the waist belt of skirts, was widely used by both royal families and commoners. Those with a single ornament were called danjaknorigae and those with three ornaments, samjaknorigae. The former was used for ordinary dress, and the latter for ceremonial dress. Daesamjaknorigae, a large pendant with three ornaments, is the largest and most elaborate of the pendants. It was used primarily in court for ceremonial dress such as wonsam and hwarot. The materials and shapes of these pendants varied, but the most common combination was amber carved in the shape of a fingered citron, a pair of jade butterflies, and branch shaped coral.
