Oh Yong-Kil is a painter who, while adhering to traditional drawing techniques, conducts formative experimentation and thematic research in the pursuit of a new path for Korean painting. Oh began to paint true-view landscapes in the 1980s, with subjects ranging from Seoul and its suburbs to famous Chinese mountains. He named his paintings “Ink-and-wash landscape painting”, referring to a landscape painting that adopts Western landscape elements while preserving the features of ink-and-wash painting.
