Song Sooryun uses the properties of Korean mulberry paper, hanji to persistently expand the world of Korean abstract painting. She has been working on her Meditation series for more than 30 years. In Meditation, the artist's gaze attempts to glimpse beyond the finiteness of the external forms into the essence of objects and to express their abstract essence. Meditation, part of the Museum's collection, is reminiscent of the unsophisticated beauty of the stamped patterns of grayish-blue-powdered celadon wares, while the uniform color and pattern of dots feature both a traditional Korean touch and a modern aesthetic.
