Gakkesuri is a piece of furniture used both in the anbang or women’s quarters and the sarangbang or men’s quarters to keep jewelry or important documents. Gakkesuri could also function as a small medicine cabinet. For this purpose, several drawers were installed behind the hinged door. This treasure chest (Gakkesuri) has mother-of-pearl inlay inside the front panels, displaying various contents like a picture. There is splendor upon opening the front panels decorated with ten symbols of longevity, since the design presents several images on a single plane resembling an unfolded picture book.
