Ilpyeondanchung (一片丹忠) is a calligraphy piece of Empress Myeongseong bestowed to the high-ranking eunuch Kim Gyu-bok. Deeply moved by her generosity, Kim wrote the epilogue.
Kim Gyu-bok first described the circumstances of the Im-o Military Revolt and Gapsin coup, and the whereabouts of the eunuchs who risked their lives to protect the royal family. After the turbulent times had passed, Empress Myeongseong bestowed her handwriting Ilpyeondanchung, which means “true loyalty from the heart,” to three eunuchs, Kim Gyu-bok, Kim Gyu-seok, and Hwang Yoon-myeong when inquiring after Hwang Yoon-myeong on December 21, in the 22nd year of the reign of King Gojong. As such, the two works have a deep relationship as important materials that explain each other's existence.
