Details
This bottle is produced with the embossed carving technique developed in late Joseon. One side is decorated with boughs and plum blossoms while the other is adorned with chrysanthemum with leaves and stems. The plum design is depicted in a way that a fully blossomed plum is viewed from above, which is a typical form appeared on the raised carvings of white porcelains in the late Joseon. These plum designs engraved in relief appear in a variety of tableware and writing supplies, and are also observed in white porcelains produced in Europe after the 18th century, as well as in the Ming and Qing dynasties of China, indicating the changes in trend.
