This simple and refined black ink painting from the mid-Joseon era was influenced by the Zhejiang School of Painting of the Ming Dynasty. It comes with the critique written by Kim Gwang-guk (1727~1797), a civil official, on its left. The remarks gave harsh words, stating that the painting by Lee Gyeong-yun (1545~1611) was not on par with those of Jeong Seon or Sim Sa-jeong; however, it is noteworthy that Kim Gwang-guk himself selected the painting for commentary. The phrase on the seal is an excerpt, "Reading a new book is like meeting a good friend. Reading the book once again is to meet an old friend," from the writing by Jin Yin from the Qing Dynasty.
