Description
One part of the body of this piece features a huge pine tree whose strong, sturdy branches cover the upper part of the jar. The pine tree is flanked by a figure watching a little boy behind him, along with another figure who stares at the bamboo tree in front of him while leaning against the table with a book on top of it. These figures are depicted in delicate, fine strokes. The other part of the body is adorned with three fine bamboo trees of different heights stretching upward. In early Joseon, court painters called hwawon did most of the drawing of the design in underglaze blue on white porcelain, displaying strong pictorial characteristics. This piece is a representative example of those white porcelains.
