Description
Among the various types of stone figures erected in front of a tomb, stone tigers in particular serve as guardians of the tomb and the buried person against outside intrusion and evil spirits.
The contours of their faces and the curves of their bodies are simplified in form and expressed as an amorphous mass, but the humorous expressions on their faces, the upright sitting posture with their forefeet raised, and the fine lines elaborately embossed on their backs in contrast with their stout and imposing bodies demonstrate the intricate and outstanding workmanship of the Joseon Dynasty.
