Description
Tteoljam, also called tteolcheolbanja, is an ornament used to decorate hair. The hairpins were set at the center and the sides of the head when queens, royal concubines and wives of courtiers wore ceremonial dress with keunmeori or eoyeomeori, hairdos decorated with large wigs. These hairpins have round, square, or butterfly-shaped jade decorated with a variety of jewelry, and springs made of silver thread were used to fix tteolsae, bird or bee-shaped decorations. The word tteoljam was named to describe the way the tteolsae trembled with the wearer’s every move.
